Weighted Average (WA) grade

You may see a grade of "WA" in a Major Progress Check. “WA” stands for Weighted Average. This grade is used in situations where a student has taken more than one course at another institution which, when combined, are deemed equivalent to one or more courses at UC Santa Barbara. An example would be a 2-semester sequence at another institution that is equivalent to a 3-quarter sequence at UC Santa Barbara. If the student received the same grade in both classes at the other institution (e.g. a B+ in both classes), the actual grade received will appear. If the student received a different grade in each class (e.g. a B+ in one and an A in the other), then the grade on the audit will be “WA”.

Withdrawal (W) grade

The notation of Withdrawal (W) will be assigned to students when they either:

   a) Receive approval to drop a course after the published drop deadline, or
   b) Drop all courses via Complete Withdrawal, and their date of withdrawal is after the published drop deadline.
